A lotta people that scream boycott the NFL, don’t really watch it anyway. How you boycott some ish you already don’t do? I don’t go to country clubs so am I boycotting country clubs now?

Every black person I know watched The Get Down and we couldn’t keep that on Netflix. We all watch Power and couldn’t get the extra episodes 50 wanted to tell a more elaborate story. What does turning a TV on or off do?

And let’s talk about what turning a TV on or off actually does.I don’t know anyone with a Nielsen box. Thats the only way to affect television ratings. So essentially you are removing a vote that wasn’t being counted anyway.

Keep in mind NFL games are only shown on television after they are sold out. If a game does not meet a ticket sales requirement it is blocked off TVs within 100 miles of the stadium. The owners have made their ticket and concession money by the time the games make it to the screen.

Real boycotts.

The Montgomery bus boycott was a direct revenue stream. It was effective because it took money right out of the pocket of the city of Montgomery. Aint many black people outside of Atlanta that are buying season tickets. We ain’t buying jerseys en masse. So how much of an effect can this boycott have?

Before you get it twisted and start screaming “JG ain’t woke!!” remember 2 things.

  1. Just because I don’t think like you, don’t mean I’m wrong.
  2. I work in sports media. It is literally my job to be knowledgeable of sports. As much as I am for the fight, Colin Kaepernick ain’t gonna donate to the JG is homeless gofundme. None of yall are losing streams of revenue because of this, so miss me with that BS.

I’m all for resistance and the power of the people. I just think the people are boycotting the wrong way.

What you should REALLY be doing.

It makes more sense to boycott the NFL’s corporate partners (ie Verizon, Papa Johns, Pepsi, Gillette,) if they stop spending money because of bad press/boycott the NFL is more likely to respond. What we spend pales in comparison to the 1.25 billion they spent last year.

Are you willing to switch to Sprint for Kaep? Order Pizza Hut? Drink coke? Avoid Campbell’s Soup?

These are some of the companies lining the league’s pockets.Want to apply some pressure. Start there. And stop sending pastors to my inbox asking me to disseminate widely because that joint was mad corny.
