Kendrick Lamar has finally dropped his new album entitled “DAMN.” Me being the geeky, music nerd, conspiracy theorist I am I could not stay off of Reddit to learn about the album. This is where I ran into a lot more than I enticipated and I’ve been going ever since.
I found a parts to a theory stating that we’re not just getting 1 Kendrick album… we’re getting 2.
Specifically, on Sunday. Sounds too good to be true, right? Here’s some evidence that might prove this claim to have some possible truth to it.
This the old Kdot not the new Kendrick ..

As a fan of TDE, you have to watch what they say and don’t say via Twitter. They are well known for criptic messages when talking about music and artists on the label. What does this mean? It sounds like we were getting the old K. Dot on “DAMN.” and not the new Kendrick that we’ve gotten accustomed to on “To Pimp A Butterfly”. Personally, I could agree. This album sounds a lot more dark and a lot different from his usual. Does that mean that we get new Kendrick on another album this weekend?
— Sounwave (@SounwaveTDE) April 14, 2017
Sounwave is one of TDE’s inhouse producers. In promoting the album release date, he tweeted a telling picture. This picture of Morpheus is from an infamous scene in ‘The Matrix’. “DAMN.” is red-based in asthetic. The wall in the background is red along with the typography of the title. Maybe this is the red pill, which would mean we get a blue.
The Last Supper in the “HUMBLE.” video
I’ll come back to why this makes sense at the end, but this is another Jesus reference. The Last Supper is the last meal Jesus ate with the Apostles before he was crucified or killed.
Kendrick closes out the first weekend of Coachella this Sunday. What better way would it be to drop the second part of your album after doing Coachella?
One of the two clues I gathered from Reddit. Kendrick changed his pictures on Spotify to be this, right around the time the cover for “DAMN.” appeared. This fits the red and blue themes for the proposed album and it fits the red pill/blue pill idea that comes from Sounwave’s tweet.
Being that Kendrick wore the title of the album in the “HUMBLE.” video prior to announcing it, I would not overlook Kendrick using this as a hint.
Warning: Spoilers Ahead.
The Album Theme + April 14th + Good Friday
The album “DAMN.” was released on April 14th, also known for many as Good Friday. In the album, Kendrick dies in the first song. Good Friday is known to commemorate the crucificion of Jesus. In an album that’s released on Good Friday, along with a music video where there was a Last Supper, wouldn’t it be right to have a resurrection?
The second clue I gathered from Reddit. The first 30 seconds of ‘BLOOD.’ includes the quote: “Is it wickedness? Is it weakness? You decide. Are we gonna live or die?” In this album, he clearly dies. In order for the audience to decide if we’re “gonna live or die”, we’d need another album with life.
At the end of “DUCKWORTH.” There’s a long clip of reversed audio that leads to the first line from Kendrick on the album, “So I was taking a walk the other day..” This is critical because that line starts the story which leads to his death. After flipping the reversed audio, I found that it rewinds the songs ‘DUCKWORTH.’ and ‘DNA.’, before going back to the beginning of the album. What’s the purpose of starting the story over again, unless there was an alternate ending?
Tupac’s last album.
Released under the alias Makaveli, The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory was Tupac’s last album. It was originally slated to be called ‘The 3 Day Theory’, as the album was written and recorded in 3 days. Supposedly the album also had around 14 songs, which “DAMN.” has. Kendrick’s last album “To Pimp A Butterfly” was heavily inspired by Tupac (The album was going to be “Tu Pimp a Catapillar” to spell out.. Tupac).
The ‘M’ in “DAMN.”
First off, I have to give credit to TIME for this. On the cover, the ‘M’ in “DAMN.” looks like horns on Kendrick’s head. Along with the dark and empty look that K. Dot gives, the horns add an emphasis on the darkness of the photo. It would be fitting if the next album had some sort of ‘O’ over his head, to symbolize a halo.
Okay, so I’ve provided all of these loose reasons why there’s another album, so here’s the tie together. It’s Easter weekend now and this album is clearly intertwined with religious references. He provided us with the Last Supper in the “HUMBLE.” video and a death on Good Friday via “DAMN.” I could only imagine that there is a “resurrection” of some sort on Sunday, during (or after) Kendrick ends the 1st weekend of Coachella, where we get another album.
This also coincides with the red pill/blue pill concept from the Matrix. When Neo was offered those two choices between the pills, it gave him two choices of an outcome to his life. Kendrick dies in the album and at the end it’s reversed to right before he dies. This is a chance to give a “blue pill” of some sort where he can live and experience a different life. Then the audience can “choose” how they’d like the story to play out.
There’s some people that think that the album will be called “NATION.” as “DAMN.” + “NATION.” makes “DAMNATION”. However, after listening to one of the samples (6:10 mark on “FEAR.”) and taking note of the period on the title, I think other wise. I’m going with the album dropping on Sunday, after Coachella, and it being called “GOD”. Thus, you’d have “GOD DAMN.” Only time will tell if any of this makes sense, but it’s a fun theory nonetheless.
