The energy was young, bubbling, and hungry. Groups of artists flanked each mirrored wall inside Skully’s Music Diner in waiting, their shuffling silhouettes doubled by the reflective glass.
Yellow and purple lights painted their faces. October Jones took to the stage to introduce the first performance as The Collective climbed the stairs. Dominating the stage, their voices filled the space as they moved across the stage effortlessly. Performing like a well-seasoned group, at 17 years old, they set the bar and captivated the night.
October Jonez performed between sets, interjecting his signature sound, a sound that appeared to influenced each musician that followed. As the night progressed and the young artists took to the stage, displaying the future sound of hip-hop, the title of the showcase became increasingly clear: “New Wave.”
