As part of The Verge’s Small Empires series, they turn their focus on often controversial website WorldStarHipHop and its founder, Lee “Q” O ’Denat, whose website full of aggregated videos draws 1.1 million unique visitors a day. While the website has become synonymous with the fight videos it puts up, O ’Denat insists that there is a wide variety of content available and that it’s up to the person behind the computer to decide if they want to see a funny clip or something with more sinister undertones. Host Alexis Ohanian – one of the founders of Reddit – serves as interviewer and looks to shed some light on one of the bigger Internet success stories who commands advertisement revenue from the likes of Walmart, Volvo and many others despite their reputation.
